Cyclist Badge

On the 10th June Cubs will be doing a practical element of their cyclist badge.

To make this as inclusive as possible, we need your help…

Please read this page and complete the survey at the end.

If you are unable to meet any of the requirements of this page

Do not worry, just fill in the feedback poll at the bottom which will influence our planning
of the activity or contact Chil in confidence where we will see what we can do to assist.

We want this activity to be accessible to everyone and so we want to plan early to get the best results.

Equipment – 10th June

Cubs will need an appropriately sized bike to take part and bikes need to be in a roadworthy condition…

  • Cubs should be able to reach the floor with both feet when standing astride
  • Cubs should be able to reach the floor with one foot when seated
  • Brakes should function
  • Tyres should be inflated
  • Handle bars, seats and wheels should be correctly fastened
  • Reflectors should be fitted; white at the front, red at the rear and at least one mounted within the spokes.

We will not be road riding – Lighting is not required.

Cubs will also need appropriate clothing that is suitable for cycling in.

All Cubs will need a helmet that is a suitable size and equipped with a chin strap.

Ability

We are not running a “Bike Ability” session, but part of the badge is to assess your Cubs’ ability to ride a bike safely.

We will match the session and the route based on the feedback provided in the form below; please be honest so that we can tailor the session to the Cubs and so everyone gets the most out of the session.

10th June – Cycling session

At this time, the plan is that we will be meeting and starting on the other side of Baldock under the A1(m) bridge near Letchworth as this gives us access to a route suitable for cubs to ride out safely in a group without the need to travel on any roads. This is subject to change as we are in the early planning stages, however for reference, the start location will be no further than this point.

Yours in Scouting – The Cubs Team
